General Information
Chania is one of the most poetic cities of Crete, built in the ruins of ancient Kydonia (which at the mythology founded by Kydon). Chania had a lot of invaders and at the same time influences from a number of cultures, which the imprint appears in each building of the city.
The city has two entries: the airport in Akrotiri, and the harbour of Souda (one of the biggest in Mediterranean).
Sovereign place in the centre of the city possesses the Municipal market, a remarkable building in crisscross form that was completed in 1913 with the same pattern as this in Marseille. In a very close distance from the centre of the city is placed the Municipal garden, which allocates a small garden with animals of the Cretan fauna, and close to it has a park of Peace and Friendship of populations.
The picturesque Enetic harbour constitutes pole of attraction for visitors and local, as much for its beauty as for the choices of amusement that it provides for the all tastes and requirements. The districts of old city “inside the city walls”, maintain their Venetian lordliness. The small little tiled streets are surrounded by aesthetical renovated houses of various seasons, which offered for a pleasant walk.
Many new classic buildings are also saved "out of the city walls" of Chania, as Chalepa’s neighborhood.
